Why Vanilla and Lemon?

Apart from it being a super tasty combo, Vanilla and Lemon bring so many other benefits to the table, not just for your skin but these natural components boast some potent therapeutic benefits too.

Vanilla

Vanilla has anti-inflammatory properties, which can help to soothe and calm irritated skin. It is also possesses anti-bacterial qualities and has been used to reduce skin infections and in wound healing. Vanilla Bean Extract contains Vanillin, a polyphenol with powerful anti-oxidant properties. Anti-oxidants help to protect against free radical damage and the effects of environmental stresses on the skin. Vanilla also contains B vitamins, including niacin, thiamin, riboflavin, vitamin B6, and pantothenic acid.  All of which help to maintain healthy looking skin.

Vanilla has proved to be an effective mood lifter, owing to its rich, yet unobtrusive scent. Vanilla also works in the (close your eyes kids) bedroom as an aphrodisiac, where scientific studies have confirmed that vanilla oil has helped to cure patients suffering from impotency, libido loss, sexual frigidity, and erectile dysfunction. The oil works to stimulate secretions of human hormones to help promote arousal. It has also been suggested the aroma of vanilla can trigger associations with food (a common arena for vanilla) and perhaps this is why its known as such an attractive perfume for us to wear.

Lemon

Lemon oil is detoxifying in nature and rejuvenates sagging or tired-looking skin. Its antiseptic properties help in treating spots and various other skin problems. Lemon oil is widely known as a powerful remedy for fighting acne. The oil is a rich source of antioxidants, citric acid and vitamin C properties that help reduce acne-causing bacteria and germs. The essential properties contained in the oil aid the skin to boost the production of collagen and maintain balanced sebum production. The vitamin C content of Lemon oil is useful due to the antioxidant properties of the vitamin (ascorbic acid) and its role in collagen synthesis. These factors therefore make vitamin C a vital component for maintaining skin health. Vitamin C is effective in treating rough patches of the skin which can be caused by over-exposure to direct ultraviolet rays. Some studies have shown that vitamin C may help prevent and treat ultraviolet induced photo-damage.

Lemon oil can also help release feelings of irritation by uplifting moods and it can improve concentration by clearing the mind, which can facilitate easier decision making. Used topically after dilution in a carrier oil in a skin care product (such as this product), Lemon oil can boost circulation, metabolism, and digestive function. It relieves constipation and reduces blood pressure as well as cellulite. It can inhibit or soothe inflammation such as headaches and can ease the discomfort associated with arthritis.
