It’s not often that a plant’s name reflects the part of the body it can benefit but this is exactly the case with extract of Eyebright. Officially named Euphrasia officinalis, extract of Eyebright has come to be nicknamed thus as it is often used for treating the eyes. Topically (i.e. when used on the skin), Eyebright is not only a natural cleanser and astringent (meaning it can help skin to appear tightened and pores smaller) it is just ideal for the thin, fragile skin around the eyes.
Benefits for the Skin
Extract of Eyebright has the ability to calm and soothe skin around the eye area (and everywhere else – it’s just delicate enough for the eyes). Hence it’s the perfect ingredient in formulas that aim to make eyes look more awake and youthful as well as the face not feel too heavy or weighed down.
Some of the benefits of Eyebright for the skin include:
- Reduce puffiness around the eyes as well as reduce inflammation associated with blemishes.
- Eyebright helps to protect the skin around the eyes and face by unclogging pores.
- Antioxidant properties: Eyebright contains antioxidants that protect the skin from environmental pollutants. Used regularly, this product helps reduce appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Of course, I included extract of Eyebright in my Cooling and Awakening Face Cream. Try it and see if your face doesn’t feel and look more awake, refreshed, and youthful.
